U.S. St. Stephen's Land Office - Registers' record of public land sold, 1820-1834.

When public lands were sold at auction the purchaser paid the Receiver and obtained a receipt which was presented to the Register who noted the tract as sold in his records. These printed forms document the lands sold with entries containing the date, the name and residence of the purchaser, the location of the land, the number of acres bought, the price per acre, the total amount paid to the Receiver and the number of the Receiver's receipt. The records act as a checklist that land has been sold and a record that the Register has seen the receipt issued by the Receiver.
